 "Mine died too...........terrible computer" 2010-08-29

Mine died, too. I had nothing but troubles with it. In fact, that is how I saw these reviews because I am having to buy another one. I would never buy another HP slimline again!

"Locking up, usb not recognized, slow indexing, searching." 2010-08-18
By D. Hicks
Where do I start. First out of the box it didn't recognize my external hard drive (with my backups) and USB Flash/Jump drives. After 1 hour with HP they couldn't figure it out. Went to Microsoft Answers formum and found out I had to delete the Mass Storage USB device in Device Manager. Then after inserting the USB re-ad the driver in the windows32 folder.

Then deleting or renaming a folder would cause the system to lock up or take forever. Back to Microsoft Answers. Limited what was indexed. No more problem.

And.. it just locks up when doing anything. Microsoft Answers...all over the board. Many people having the same problem. But by people that are running W7 x64 and have no problems they say its a hardware problem. I will never know. It's going back.

"Fine if no plans to upgrade - Not for widescreen gaming" 2010-08-16
By WritingisArt (Sacramento, California)
The only "benefit" this computer has to offer is that it is a BIT (3 or 4 inches at best) slimmer than an average computer.

PROS: This HAS the power to connect to a widescreen T.V. and even stream video via Netflix. (It's a 47" LCD widescreen with Windows 7) but

CONS 1. It won't play some of the more simple games because it has "onboard" graphics. For those who don't know... onboard means cheap, built in. Most gamers want a separate card that will take the processing load off the computer's memory and processing power.

2. I has ONE expansion slot and it's not the best kind described below.

3. It has a weak power supply so even if you buy a more dated type of video card (called IDE - now obsolete) if you want good graphics you want something called PCI-express which is a video card linked DIRECTLY to the processor speeding everything up.

a. Look on Google and no one can find a video card for it despite all the advancements in technology.

b. Even a so called "low profile" card won't work because the metal part for most are "standard" size.

4. The slimline case while nice and small WON'T FIT any video cards and the ones that do have an adapter take require more power than this model offers.

(You need 300 Watts MINIMUM this has 270 close but not good.)

So while I'm stuck with this for now I'll soon be replacing it for something with more VIDEO power.

Note: Computers are slowly but surely moving to the living room, especially as widescreen TVs come down in price. (Mostly that's in the form of gaming consoles from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo, you can even surf the web) but they don't play iTunes on the T.V.

With a wireless mouse and keyboard it's very nice to have a computer with a HUGE monitor. I just wish I'd picked one with more power.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Experience: That vital learning you get just AFTER you needed it.

I had no problems with the motherboard but being a newer design (cramming it all into a smaller box) I wouldn't be surprised if many more people had problems. I was lucky.

 "Noisy and problem plagued" 2010-05-31
By A. Hirschey (Dulles, VA United States)
Just a week after ownership, this machine started to shut down at odd times. It would work for a while, and then suddenly crash. I thought it was a heating problem. After endless hours on the help line with HP, I took it to several computer repair shops. To make a long story short, I have shoved it into a closet and will buy a different machine. This was completely useless and a waste of money. I should mention that the Slimlines give off a defening noise, which is almost intolerable, and I would listen closely to advice given about noise if you are sensitive to sound.

"I will never again buy an HP" 2010-04-10
By E. Chuches (WI)
I bought this computer and one year later it stopped working. The problem was the video card, and because of that I was supposed to change the mother board. I contacted customer service several times because it stopped working under warranty and they ignored me because I called three days late (while I was trying to figure out what should I do with it). They treated me badly, they were insulting, they hanged up on me several times... terrible experience. I will never buy an HP again, this one in particular because it failed after one year and any other because their costumer service is insulting and it does not help.
