"Great computer for the money." 2010-09-11
By Nancy Horn
I have been looking for a computer for months. I came across this HP Pavilion P6320F on Amazon and my son (college student) finally approved of this one. He was going to build one for me. Then after seeing this HP he said for the money he couldn't build it for much less. I'm very happy its a great computer. I still haven't used it to its full capacity.

For the power and speed that this PC delivers for the dollar amount...I am(so far)...very please. Like one of the other reviewers, I am no pleased with the amount of extra software that I don't feel that I would use and thus removed it as soon as I had the machine booted. I am sure it has value to someone, just not to someone like me.

I look forward to testing out the gaming capability at some point, but for the purposes of home office use, this machine does an exceptional job running the Microsoft Office products. Plus my wife has commented about how fast this machine operates when she works remotely from her office. We are very pleased with our purchase. No hardware failure to speak of. The packing that they shipped the machine in probably could use a little beefing up to protect it in transit.

Also, wished this model came with a Blue-ray player, that would have made the purchaser even sweeter.

 "So far, so great..." 2010-07-19
By mlinvill
I'd had my eye on this for 6 months at the local Best Buy, and apparently good things DO come to those who wait because I was able to snag this on Amazon for $480 and free shipping! The downside: (and this is my own fault for not noticing) it doesn't come with built-in wireless networking ability. That's inexpensive & easily fixable. The tower arrived quickly & looked great, however when I set it up, it became obvious that the front USB ports were not working. The computer didn't detect my flash that I'd inserted until I put the flash in one of the rear USB ports. I did a little research on the HP website, and after removing the side panel of the tower, I found that the USB connections had come loose during transit. After plugging them back in, the computer works great! With only one minor bump in the road, everything runs smooth! (I bought this computer to upgrade for the CS5 Photoshop & it's amazing!)

I had been looking to replace my 9 year old computer and found it in this unit.

My daughter told me to get 8MB Ram so that it will handle everthing and it does.

The price was great and I am very satisfied with it. My only problem is adapting

from XP to 7.

"Little customer support for HP productgs" 2010-07-07
By Granny Crystal
If you are updating from Windows XP beware. There is little support for any problems that you may encounter. If you call support and they cannot solve the problem and you want to talk to someone who is an expert in Windows 7 you will have to pay extra. Also, support ends after 1 year, when the warranty is up. I am having trouble using my 3 year-old HP LaserJet printer with the HP Pavilion computer. Because the printer is more than one year old, HP offers no support for the problem, although they do have a Windows 7 driver for the printer.

If I am scanning something into Photoshop, I have to close the scanner before I can continue working on the photo. In order to close the scanner on the new computer I have to use the Windows Task Manager, as Windows 7 does not put an icon for the scanner on the task bar.

I see posts from other people about these and similar problems, but no information on how to solve them.

Previously, I had a computer built by a local company with a good reputation. I should have done that again. Unless you are a business, you aren't going to get much help.

The computer is fairly fast, although it tends to hang up occasionally - just a short wait, but that's annoying if you are busy.

 "AVIOD AT ALL COSTS" 2010-08-11
By Margaux Paschke (New York)
I purchased this HPE-140f after a lot of research and it seemed a great choice. For the first 3 hours this pc shined and I loved using it; however, the next 6 hours proved to be another story. Skip to the end, I had to return this pc due to a bad graphics card and I am awaiting its replacement. I really loved many of the features and price point so I requested an exchange and hopefully, my next pc will not be a lemon and I can update this review to a positive one. UPDATE: Received another pc that didn't work properly - not a good sign.

I narrowed down my choices between the HPE-140f and the newer model (240f) but decided on this one due to three things: (1) the built-in tv tuner; (2) the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-240F Desktop PC (Black) is upgraded to a blu-ray dvd player but the built-in media storage was smaller - I figured I would save a couple of hundred and use my stand alone blu-ray player for now since media storage was key for me; and (3) two usb ports in the front & 4 in back versus the 1 usb in front and the rest in the back. I have a lot of devices that I connect to my pc - sometimes at the same time - and I did not want to have to purchase an usb hub to use them.

The Intel i5 core with 3.2 GHz provides lots of speed. It is so much faster then my 2002 HP media center model. It beats everything else I tried when combined with the other included options. It has a built-in tv tuner (you need to connect it with cables not provided - additional purchases are needed to use this option) with a remote. Very cool. I have a Samsung Touch Of Color T220HD 22-inch LCD HDTV Monitor which allows me to watch tv on my pc but this HPE-140f allows me to seamlessly switch between the two (I had to manually switch the cable between my pc and monitor on my old pc set-up).

I use my pc as a music and video center and I was very pleased with the HP media smart software although it took a while to get used to it. My old HP had media buttons on the keyboard labeled "burn cd", "burn dvd", etc. which made things much easier. The pc came preloaded with Windows 7 which required another learning curve and there are some issues, but that's another review. Please note that if you purchase a pc with Windows 7 already loaded, Microsoft will not help you with any technical issues unless you pay a $59.99 charge. The pc also had a free trial of Norton Anti-virus installed which was very annoying as it kept popping up. I uninstalled this software very quickly. It has advertising software that takes up space and that I am not savy enough to uninstall. Yuck.

The real problems started when I shut down the pc and rebooted the next morning. The bottom portion of my screen was black and the screen had moved up a couple of inches. Calls to HP customer service proved frustrating - we are talking 4 hours worth! - until I finally got a U.S. service center. They used remote access to take over my computer to try and fix the problem. It turned out to be a bad graphics card. HP told me they could send me a pre-paid box for shipping and that they would fix it and send it back to me within 2-4 weeks. I choose to return it using my 30 day return policy from the vendor (sidenote: J&R was a pleasure to deal with concerning returns). UPDATE: For Round II, HP had no record of previous phone calls despite providing a case number. It all depends on who is taking notes - some do not enter more then "customer called" and other provide more details. They were not helpful and wasted hours going around in circled without addressing the issue. The automated voice system kept insisting I was saying "kayak" - ARRGH!

Lately, I have had to return a lot of "lemons." I think this is an overall trend in products being manufactured to a lower standard and hoped it was not this pc specifically and was willing to try another one. This proved to be a mistake. I spent 6 hours on the phone with customer support on Round I and 4 hours on the phone for Round II. Even with the knowledge that you need to keep calling their service center (1-800-474-6836) until you get an American one, I spent way too much time on the phone. Customer service blamed Windows 7, my monitor and several other factors. They provided some crazy advice (shake the pc!) which provided some much needed laughter but too many hours of frustration. This experience proved to be very annoying and cost me too much time and money. I cannot recommend this pc due to my experiences with two HPE-140f models.

"ONE FANTASTIC COMPUTER FOR LOW PRICE" 2010-07-16
By Don
I'm NOT a computer geek, just know enough to research and price for a good value. Looked for about 2 weeks before finding HPE150F through Amazon. For what I paid, it can't be beat! Was looking for 4-core, 2.5-2.8GHz CPU; 6-8GB DDR2 RAM; 750GB HDD; 1GB video card; Win 7 home prem OS; and the usual niceties. This HPE far exceeded expectations, and for low $500 range! It's not a gamer, but for my use is very, very top end of what I ever dreamed. One year warranty from HP and I paid for a second year extension with discount coupon. Weekly(?) checkup, HP found HDD problem during 2nd week. HP replaced HDD, no cost. Rating the various HPE components, the large HDD is the weak link, rated 5.9 out of 10. For me, this machine is fast. With the Intel i7, all checks, updates, cleanups are in background while I do my work. The only thing missing for me right now is eSATA connection. USB2.0 is ok, but external HD would work much faster through SATA. Connected a 32" TV/monitor (with PIP) using HDMI cable from video card to TV/monitor. All reviewers said this connection would be a problem; use VGA instead. The HDMI works great for me, and have a HD digital picture. This is my 4th computer: 2 laptops, 2 desktops. With this machine I am using backup because that 1TB HDD is alot of mass to spin. HP even recommends to not shutdown, but just let machine powerdown and sleep over night. Currently I have "high speed" (broadband) internet. This computer deserves and can easily handle the real highspeed- fiber optic cable, which is not available to me. I only found this computer and my price at Amazon. Thanks Amazon!

"After About 6 Months No problems" 2010-07-15
By Lee Webb (Arizona)
After About 6 Months no problems

I have built my computers for the past 12 years or so, something I probably won't do again as it no longer seems cost effective or worth the time - at least for me.

I rate this computer highly for these simple reasons:

I have had zero problems with it. It worked out of the box with no confusion and did not come with preinstalled garbage or CDs that take hours to figure out if they have any value. It is fast and responsive, programs and processes that meant waiting time are now instantaneous or much speedier. (My previous Windows Vista PC which had plenty of power in principle was a slug, less usable then the less powerful Windows XP PC that preceded it.) The entry into 64bit had fewer problems than I anticipated.

I splurged when I bought it and might have been just as happy saving a few dollars on a lesser model. But the bottom line is so far I am very happy with the package.

 "Great, Powerful Computer" 2010-07-09
By M. Harris
HP really impressed me this time. This computer is the best one that I have ever used. This computer does not freeze at all. I always run the disk cleanup. The keyboard and mouse that came with it are excellent as well. All of my programs worked with Windows 7, which by the way is a pleasure to use. It is much better than XP. The only thing that did not work was my printer, which I didn't like anyway, but my new one worked with it just fine. This computer is fast. iTunes works better with it. It does not take forever to open. I use this computer for gaming, which it is rated for. The graphic card is excellent for my driving games. They work much better than on my other computer. I set them at their very highest settings, and the game still ran smoothly. To get the maximum performance, I went to the NVIDIA control panel, which can be found by right-clicking on the desktop. I changed the power management mode to "prefer maximum performance". I went to the "Power Options" section of the control panel, and clicked on "High Performance". My computer even works better with those settings. The computer is powerful. It has a lot of features, such as the remote for the media center, the DVD burner, which is common now, and the TV tuner. The burner works on CDs as well, and it is also faster than the one on my old computer. Programs took a lot less time to install. The amount of RAM included is great for multitasking.

BOTTOM LINE: If you want a powerful computer, buy this one, and if you want to enjoy your games. I have not had any problems with it.

Currently I have "high speed" (broadband) internet. This computer deserves and can easily handle the real highspeed- fiber optic cable, which is not available to me. I only found this computer and my price at Amazon. Thanks Amazon!

Have been really happy with this PC. Boots up fast, very stable. Compared to my last desktop (a Dell, crappy from day 1) this one has been a dream.

I don't use the PC for gaming or anything too intensive (though I'm sure it could handle it), but for basic day to day office productivity, video, stuff like that, top notch.

Love Windows 7 as well. Microsoft got this one right.
