 "Amazing!" 2010-08-25

The only thing I can say is WOW! I was kind of hesitant before buying this machine but it simply proved me wrong. I have been using this for about 4 months now and I truly fall in love with my PC. It would be tedious to list all the pros (storage, processor, memory, wireless N card,... ) but I am astounded by the quietness of the fan.

 "Very Good Tech" 2010-05-01
By R. Pearce
Although this computer is not quite "bleeding edge" technology it is right up there as far as performance and speed of software is concerned. The only way you might want a better PC is if you are a committed gamer or just have to have the most recent processor in your PC. For typical users it is just great.

"A great machine for a great price" 2010-03-08
By NYTiger (Boston, MA)
I purchased this Refurbished machine through Amazon, and the order was filled by J&R in NY. It's a beast of a machine. I chose standard shipping for free, but received the computer the next day. WOW. They overnighted it for free. I'm impressed!

First off, it was a real bargain at $549. The machine's 750GB of storage is plenty for me, given that I own an external harddrive and a laptop. Great specs. Windows 7 installed.

The biggest plus for me was the Wireless N card. It comes with a special antenna you screw onto the back (really simple). I bought an N compatible router also. This machine now runs my Magic Jack phone service flawlessly, and prioritizes the traffic through the N band, leaving the other computers in my house to chug along on the G band.

This computer is FAST, especially with the N card. I suggest you buy an N capable router to go with this purchase, you'll be very happy you did. 8 GB of ram, Quad processor, this thing really cooks.

Windows 7 is pretty great. I am pleased, and so far have not encountered any conflicts with other software I have installed. I use this computer at home, and have MS Office 2007, Photoshop, Flash, and some games installed.

One Con: The warranty on the Refurbished product is short, and I did have concerns about that. For the price I paid, I was very happy with this machine.

The other Con I can think of is all the HP software that is installed. Since the machine is a beast, you won't really notice the extra software applications running, but it's a breeze to uninstall all of the HP stuff you don't need.

"Good value for all you get" 2010-02-09
By Clint88 (Newport Beach, CA)
I bought this computer after my old PC died, and I have to say it's very good value for what you get. The processor is fast and quad core, the hard drive is expansive, there is more than enough memory for the average user, and Windows 7 64-bit runs with no problem. It's also very quiet and has built in wireless.

I've used it for about 4 months with no problems. The computer has built in graphics, meaning no separate graphics card, so that is one area that would need to be upgraded if you want to game on it. That upgrade is plug and play though, and very easy. The graphics are fine for normal use; Aero runs with no problems.

"May have exceeded my expectations..." 2009-11-04
By Scott Jones (Chicago IL)
I made this machine my new baby about 4 days ago and, so far, it has been nothing but fun. I bought this at my local Frye's for [...] with a BFG GeForce 210 ([...]) to replace the horrible Intel onboard graphics. The total was [...] with tax out the door, and I do believe I got my 700 bucks worth.

Out of the box, this thing is beautiful and setup would put a Mac to shame. I upgraded from a single core, Celeron 3.0GHz, and the quad Core2 is something to behold. The Q8300 chip it has is the most power efficient of the quad Core2's and it shows in how nearly silent this PC is. Quietest PC I have ever owned/seen except for laptops.

After I got it up and running and could see that all was well, I installed the GeForce 210. Install went ultra smooth and DVD playback was immediately improved. I installed an old copy of FarCry and set the graphics to their highest settings - the game played smoother than I have ever seen it before.

Unfortunately, the video card does add a fan and the system is no longer silent, it is still very quiet though, and you must do this for graphics that match the performance of this system. It is well worth it and you add an HDMI port in the process.

In the future, I plan to simultaneously upgrade the 300 watt PSU and the video card with the BFG trade-up program. That should be fun.

Awesome power (8GB of DDR3), quiet, Windows 7 - this thing rocks!

"Beware HP Desktops and "Customer Service"" 2010-04-24
By S. C. Watts (Illinois)
Be very careful about buying an HP desktop. I'm currently attempting, through both the Better Business Bureau and my state attorney general's office, to obtain a refund for a defective top of the line HP desktop purchased new in November 2009. Since then, have spent a hundred hours or more trying to work through black screen freezes, sleep issue freezes, sleep runaway graphic card fan issues, and finally, a complete failure of the computer to recognize the RAID configuration, & resulting inability to access hard drives. With the latest failure, I spent five hours on a vacation day with their often unintelligible tech support, who finally wanted me to attempt to overwrite my hard drives - which were perfectly good - thus destroying all my data. 1) this wouldn't work, as the system couldn't access them, 2) I wasn't going to destroy my data. I was then referred to a supervisor, who tried to walk me through the same steps. I again refused to attempt an overwrite of my hard drives. Was then referred to a case manager, who, although I did not ask to escalate, kept repeating "I am the case manager, you cannot escalate beyond me." She wanted me to send in the computer, and I wanted a refund. We hung up. Over the next week, I removed my hard drives and copied the data over, then wiped the drives. I called HP back, spent an hour waiting for referred 2nd level, who said I should have called the case manager, that he couldn't help. Told him I didn't have contact info; he said I should have been given it, but he'd contact her and I'd hear back in a few days. That was March 11. Today is April 23. Still waiting.

Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. HP finally contacted me nearly three weeks after they received the complaint from the Better Business Bureau. They called while I was at work, then sent a follow-up e-mail. I arrived home 1/2 hour after their call and immediately returned their call. Was told I couldn't speak to the case manager who called me because he was getting off work in five minutes, so they'd assign a 2nd shift case manager who would call me back. I hung up, then responded to the e-mail advising that I'd returned the phone call and was waiting for a return call. That was April 15. Today is April 23. Still waiting.

Two days ago, HP followed up with the BBB, advising - get this - that they'd called me and sent me an e-mail and I hadn't responded, but that I should call them if I "still have an issue." So, I responded through the BBB, reminding them that I had in fact returned their phone call, was advised I'd be called back, and I responded to their e-mail. And, you guessed it, I'm still waiting.

In the meantime, I've also filed a complaint with my state's attorney general's office. If neither the BBB or attorney general's office can get HP to respond, then my next step is small claims court.

The moral of the story: If you purchase an HP computer, hope nothing goes wrong.

"works with windows 7, with some work" 2010-04-07
By misscali (DE, US)
I got my win 7 upgrade in the mail, kept getting BSOD so I reinstalled windows. Got BSOD every 2-3 days after reinstalling win 7. Finally updated all my drivers, bios and everything, didn't get one for awhile. Then I got one about every month. I had had it, emailed hp, then found it immediately there is a known issue with the motherboard, so they're going to fix it, hopefully it'll fix all the problems. I guess I should of emailed hp earlier, I just figured it was a driver issue, not the computer.

Other than that I love this computer, works great. Very fast, quiet, good deal for what you get

 "Pleased with the hardware" 2010-03-07
By D. Miller (Kansas)
This desktop has been great from the moment I got it. I bought it in August of 2009 at a local electronics store. It seemed to run a little hot at first but began to run cooler after a couple days. I do a fair share of gaming and it keeps up with everything I throw at it. I made the mistake of installing the discounted Norton package that came with it (FYI - you have to unistall the demo before installing the full version or it won't work). Norton misses so many bugs its a joke. It was loaded with Vista which in some ways is slower than my previous desktop with Windows XP that was eight years old.

But back to the system itself. I'm not a electronics geek so I don't have a lot in the way of peripherals. But if I did, I still think I would have more ports than I would know what to do with. It runs quiet. I would suggest not closing this system in a cabinet so that it does have room to breath and doesn't get too hot. It does what I need - Internet, Videos, Games, DVDs.

"Pavilion - pros and cons" 2010-01-31
By EHP (Maryland, USA)
Had a couple problems out of the box, which I attributed to Vista. After making adjustments to the OS, the computer started working a whole lot better. However, it would lock up or give a BSOD from time to time. At first I didn't pay too much attention to it, but then it started to do it while I was working. Very annoying. Now I have realized it usually locks up within 15 minutes of turning it on. After the lockup, I turn it off and back on and it seems to work fine from thereon out. At least until I turn it off or sleep for an extended period. The error codes are along the lines of secondary processor timing out, hardware stopped working. I will call HP to get an RMA and hope that will solve the problem.

"Absolute Junk ** Beware**. Motherboard is a Lemon" 2009-11-15
By Raman (Memphis, TN United States)
I have a E9180F with Vista having multiple bluescreen / Freezing issues. I believe HP knows that this model has issues, but does not admit or do anything about it. I already spent more than 20 hours jumping through all their hoops to fix the problem. Some of theTech support guys are rude and all they did was defragment the disk/ clean up malware, uninstall Firewall, do a virus scan. They had me upgraded the Bios. They even had me reinstall the whole operating system. I felt the machine actually became slower after the bios upgrade. Pretty much every tech person in HP knows this model has a problem. But they will not admit it. Some one posted a video on Youtube about this problem. Check for the title "HP Knowingly Selling Extremely Defective Pavilion Elite PCs (9150, 9180 models)" on youtube. If you ever see a postive review, it is probably posted by someone with self interest or prematurely posted with out testing their machine to the full extent. There is even a class action investigation going on. Search for "Giskan solotaroff anderson & stewart HP Elite class action" from google. According to the Tech forms I checked, all machines with 9180 / 9280 / 9150 / 9250 series seem to use the same mother board and seem to have the problem.

You are better of going with some other manufacturer who cares about the customer.

I called thinking I had Norton support (my bad...didn't look carefully enough when I googled the number). All I needed was to transfer my (paid-for) anti-virus protection from old laptop to new. The iyogi guy insisted I needed a 'prime' technician at $40 and repeatedly demanded I call my husband at home to sign on to their website so they could handle it all remotely. I finally gave in (25 minutes into the phone call) and agreed. Got my husband on the phone and then the techhie told me he had to put me on hold and transfer me to the 'prime' technician. At that point I hung up...and the guy called my house and demanded my husband give him my credit card number. He apparently also said he would call back tomorrow.

 "iYogi alternative..." 2010-08-15

I have teenage twin boys who like the internet a bit too much. They MySpace, and Face book the hell out of their laptops. They shoot aliens and war craft like medieval mad men. They are perpetually plugged into these machines so much that I would swear the iPod appendage they have grown actually seems normal. So it was bound to happen that they would eventually need their notebooks cleaned up and swept for virus'. We called iYogi and paid $140 and they told us it would be an hour and they would call us or message us on the screen when they were done. About 6 hours later one of the boys alerts me that he needs his computer for a paper he has to write. I call the India based `tech' and inquire about the computer when I am told that they have been extra-ordinarily busy and that it would another few hours. I asked for a specific number of hours and was told that he couldn't give me and exact figure. So we waited another 5 hours and I call again. Still there is no progress so we disconnected them from the computer, and asked for a refund on the cost for a year of unlimited support. When we arrive was ask for our property back and leave immediately. When we get home I look up some alternatives to the "iYogi Run Around". I found a different repair company, Secure Remote Support , and I actually didn't have to take the computers anywhere. I just visited their website and selected a button on their website and gave them permission to connect to the laptops over the internet. And away the computers went. It was like there was a virtual technician in our home working on it without having to have a stranger in our home. Within 1 actual hour the computers were cleaned up, and sped up. Their service was fast, friendly and efficient. It was everything my iYogi experience was not. Thanks iYogi for wasting my time. I had to file with the Better Business Bureau to try and get my money back. Still waiting!

 "Great all around machine" 2010-10-24
By Larry (Hayward, CA United States)
I bought this item a few weeks ago. Fabulous machine. The Phenom II six-core chip really makes it scream. The trade-off against the Intel chip on the comparable model 470 machine is that you have a lower cache size vs. the Phenom's higher number of cores (six with AMD to four for Intel), but if you use a lot of multi-threaded applications, it's a worthwhile trade. Photoshop renders are as fast as I've ever seen them, and games can go with as high of a frame rate as you like. Multi-screen support is built in and simple to set up.

Upgrading is easy. My machine now has a blu-ray writer, 3 TB of drive and 16 GB of memory. Took all of half an hour to install everything on my own and not a compatibility issue in sight.

Some nice small things like the CF card not having to be slotted so deep that you need a pair of pliers to pull it out, or the top mounted USB ports. Little touches that make things nice.

My single issue is using the display port, which I have yet to be able to do, but that's a minor quibble and probably just a driver update issue.

Overall a great machine for a good price. Highly recommended.

 "Great LCD Monitor" 2010-10-30
By barkhousebob
I am not a techie wiz but I would say the HP 2010i LCD HD Ready LCD Monitor has to be one of the best buys available. The matte finish on the monitor completely does away with the glare problems. This was a big issue for me and I am very happy with this monitor.

 "Residue Removal" 2010-10-26
By RickH
For those having difficulty with the dreaded "Sticker Residue" I suggest first trying Mike G's technique of using the sticker itself. If that doesn't work, try carefully applying/swiping a small amount of Rubbing Alcohol with a Q-Tip and quickly clean with a soft clean cloth. I had a very small amount of residue on the top left side. The Rubbing Alcohol took it right off without any damage to the gloss finish - GOOD LUCK!

Aside from that, I'm quite pleased with this monitor. Setup was a breeze, websites look great, as do movies.

"Monitor and residue removal hint" 2010-10-13
By MikeG
As others have noted, this is a bright, well sized, and crystal clear monitor. I appreciate the matte finish screen that eliminates glare. The wide screen is handy when displaying two documents, photos, or tax forms side by side. For those of us who are challenged by progressive bifocals, I recommend this monitor.

HINTS:

1. When ordering this monitor, and if your computer has a DVI-D output, order a DVI-D connector at the same time to save some cash. Amazon's price is much cheaper than Radio Shack (I found out after the monitor arrived).

2. I discovered several years ago a residue removal technique that works on all those pesky super sticky labels manufacturers put on everything from pots & pans to computer monitors. Use the label itself to remove the residue. Peel the label off carefully. Then blot (with a little pressure) the sticky residue with the sticky side of the label. For some reason the residue has an affinity for the original label. Perhaps because glue formulas vary. I did this with the HP label and got all the residue off in about three minutes with no damage. Hope this helps.

Cannot rotate the hp 2010i 20 in. monitor screen into a vertical position. It sticks after rotating 20 degrees, instead of the needed 90 degrees. Fresh out of the shipping box! Frustrating!!

I love this monitor. I've always used Apple screens. This definitely does the job at a lot cheaper price. The product arrived on time.
