 "PC Addict" 2010-10-16
By Lumen Doce (North Augusta, SC USA)
I'm not especially tech savvy, but I know enough to ferret through the different computers offered and home in on what I think will be best suited for me. I didn't hesitate to use the Help button and discuss my potential purchase with an Amazon representative, as well. I'm glad I did. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. I'm finding this HP PC to be a worthwhile investment. It satisfies all my requirements and then some. I highly recommend it. Why not five stars rather than four? If Amazon wouldn't push so assiduously for a review, I probably would give it five stars; but, I need a little more time with it to be certain it merits a perfect rating. For now, it's great, and I'm happy.

 "Price verus Performance" 2010-10-10
By ThreeEyePC (Florida)
I spent a good bit of time checking reviews before purchasing this computer and am I glad I did. Most of the reviews were quite favorable and I understand why now. I wanted a computer for my wife at home that didn't cost a lot but was fast and useable for a few years before I felt the upgrade urge again. For non gamers this computer has all you will need or want. Set up was easy as pie, just find the connection that fits and plug it in. I used the internal wi fi to set it first while my old compter was finishing an upload to Carbonite. The wi-fi worked fine. Then set it up wired with no problem. I think the most impressive thing was the SPEED, this baby is pretty darn fast. Perhaps because this machine is new, it is running much faster than my office computer that is running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66 with 4 GB of Ram verus the AMD II X4 630 2.80 on this machine, that cost $300 more. The video card seems fine for every day use. The value verus performance is there, buy it if you have a $530 budget or a little more. Bought it on Amazon with free shipping took about a week to get it. I am having a problem setting up a new Cannon Cann MP990 printer on the Network but that is operator weakness. Buy this machine and you will be very happy you did.

 "So far so good" 2010-10-04
By Inspector
I just purchased this printer and received it last week. The set up was very easy and it is doing every thing that I wanted it to do. However it would have been nice if it came with a USB cord but I'm lucky I had one from my prior Canon printer. I would recommended this as a very good printer for the low price of it. Again I only have had it for one week.

 "Great System but!!" 2010-10-01
By T. Winn (CA, USA)
For your average user this is a great system. Quad Core CPU along with 4gb of ram rocks for normal use. I was amazed don't know if it's Windows 7 or if the extra utility that Hp provides is in play but I plugged in all my peripherals to the USB ports and fired it up.

The system recognized and installed all my peripherals some around 2-3 years old. My HP Printer and my Life Cam camera were recognized and the correct drivers installed.

Your average user will be 1000% satisfied with this system. 4gb is enough for Windows 7 unless you are doing gaming or really intensive graphics. My dvd playing of movies and my netflix streaming looked great on my 27" viewsonic monitor. I read a rating of the quad core CPU used and it scored highest in video streaming and normal in the other tests. So this system is optimized to play your movies.

The machine was just plain fast, I couldn't believe how fast it was for the measly $450.00 I paid for it!!

By the way it has 4 memory slots and is using 2 ddr3 Memory Modules so you can upgrade to 8gb Memory without having to trash your old memory. Dell loves to put in 1gb Dram so you end up losing the memory. This was not a concern for me because I'm replacing the memory with 8gb of (2X4) of G.Skill 1333 memory.

At $450.00 this machine bought at a famous office supply store this system is a bargain.

Now the Cons.

I'm the type who is just not satisfied with a plain system, its just no fun to use the stock system. I felt I wanted to buy a Cheap System than upgrade and make the system into something much better than you buy stock from the stores.

I'm upgrading the RAM to 8gb ddr 1333. Put in a 1gb gamer card an extra fan maybe a SSD hard drive and we are off and running. Before buying this system I confirmed with HP that it has a 300 Watt Power Supply. Well I cracked open the case and it only has 250 Watt PS.

By the way the stock powersupply is very quiet. The situatio turned out not to be too bad 400 Watt PS are available on Amazon for $20.00 and I ended up buying the Thermaltake W0070RUC TR2 Series 430W Power Supply with 2 Fans for $40.00. But it is an inconvenience. There are Passive Vga cards available that will run on this without the need for a Power Supply upgrade.

For my video card I bought a XFX ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB DDR5 DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card HD567XZNF3 on amazon for $100.00 reason why I chose it was that besides users saying it brought the Windows Experience index to a whopping 7. It also according to 1 user who measured it uses 75 Watts of power at full tilt.

A 300 watt power supply is sufficient to run it but a 250 watt is cutting it too close so by by stock power supply. By the way if you go to support section on hp and pump in the model number there is a sheet that covers this and if I had known about the support section I wouldn't have been surprised.

A negative for me is that if you use more than 2 slots the memory speed will slow down to 1066 so in order to get that 33% boost in memory I couldn't use my current 2ghz 1333 memory sticks

For me sound is not that important and I'll be happy with the sound provided it has jack to support everything including digital

By the way some good links if you want to go into depth are

For the system as a whole

[...]

and for the Motherboard

[...]

I did find out one thing that was distressing. Turns out that if you use more than two memory slots than the ram will default to the lower frequency. So instead of buying 2gb stick I had to buy 4gb sticks of Ram to be assured of the speediest system.

I looked up the motherboard on the HP sight and guess what the CPU is upgradeable to the Phenom series so in the future when the Phenom comes down to a low price and it will I'll be able to upgrade the CPU for the moment the quad speed CPU that this comes with is fine. It had a rating in the high 6 for windows experience level and with a fast video card I'm sure it's ample to handle anything but the highest games which I don't play anyway.

One drawback is that according to the motherboard manual the machine is Sata not Sata 2 for most of you that won't mean anything but if you plan to upgrade to a SSD Hard drive like I do than that means that you simply won't get the throughput of a SATA 2. It'll be plenty fast but not reach maximum potential.

Anyway in summation this machine as is is great for the average user and is very upgradeable if in the future you need more power. So it's a great machine for now and for the future!!

"FAST, QUIET PC--LOVE WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM!" 2010-09-13
By Daisy S (Hot Springs, AR)
Thought about my purchase for about 6 months. And after much research, I decided on an HP computer with a wireless card built in. This model is the one I chose and it is just perfect!

PROS about this HP Computer:

1) Wireless N Card built in. I just turned on the computer, and the card read my router and I was up and running on the internet in just 5 minutes! (Having the built in card on this desktop like the laptops do was a MUST for me. Also, the internet runs so quickly with this card in the computer, I am just amazed!

2) The LARGE 750 Gig Hard Disk is so so quiet, even when it runs it is hard to hear. (Good sign as in the past when I had a noisy hard drive, it usually crashed within one year!)

3) Hard disk does not run often, another very, very good sign!

4) In addition, I bought the HP S2331 with 23" monitor and the display is superb (I bought this the same day separately at another store).

5) Love the Windows 7 Home Premium that is on this computer (even though MOST of of older programs do not work in Windows 7, 64 bit). I was aware of this and bought new software at the same time that I bought this computer. And I was ready to do this as in my last computer, I had Vista and I had a love/hate relationship with Vista and wanted the change to Windows 7 and also I wanted a new computer so it all worked out great. So this experience so far with Windows 7 and this new HP PC has been great!

6) This system came with keyboard, mouse and computer (no monitor, but I bought the 23" HP S2331 monitor and am so happy with all of this put together).

CONS: NO CONS with this HP, it is PERFECT, however, with Windows 7 here is my experience:

*I have been upgrading for many years with new computers and new Windows and each time I have found I had to buy all new software as most of the old softwares would not run with the new Windows program. In addition, about 50% of the time, I had to buy a new printer as well. The last two times I bought a new system, with Vista and now Windows 7, I was able to update the driver of my printer online and install with no problem. **I bought this same model of computer in August, 2010 and was totally prepared that I would have to buy new software that would run in Windows 7, 64 bit. So I prepared myself for this and planned it for 6 months BEFORE I purchased this new HP system with Windows 7, 64 bit. And to make the transition even easier, I kept my older computer with Vista on it as a backup computer so I still have some of my older programs that I like. The funny thing is that now that I have upgraded with a new system and Windows 7 with new software, I like the new software so much, after 4 weeks, I rarely go back to the old Vista computer anymore! Yes, it is costly and also takes time and patience when upgrading from the old Windows, older computer to the newer Windows and newer computer, however, in just about 4 weeks, I can smile and am so glad that I did this. Thanks HP and Windows 7! Premium
