Buyer beware! Nothing is as easy as it looks.
It's my own fault. This is the first time I bought Windows 7, and I should have read up on it more. I was hesitant because of compatibility issues. Every program we run is just fine on Windows XP, but I saw in reviews I read that Windows 7 can run a "virtual XP" program. So, I expected to have to run that for some legacy software.
Here's the rub. This computer comes with the Home Premium version, which is not "eligible" to run the virtual XP program. You have to run a more expensive version of Windows 7 to do that. Now, I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things out, and I'm persistent, but I wasted hours trying to figure out how to upgrade, and I ran out of time. So, maybe I'll get back to it, and maybe we will just run the older programs on our older machines. If I had it to do over, I would make sure I was getting Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate.

I've been peddling along with an old HP that had 80gb hard drive and 1gb ram. I ordered this computer and have been thrilled with it's performance, speed, quiet, and boot-up is so fast. I was a little leery of Windows 7 but now love it. I went to you tube
and [...] and watched several tutorial videos prior to receiving desktop which made it so much easier to use. Windows XP is now a stranger to me. There are so many things about Windows 7 that make computing so much easier. I found top-windows-tutorials extremely helpful

I needed a computer that didn't make me wait forever to get online and I got it. This HP Pavilion is fabulous. My only regret is I didn't get it while they still had XP and Word 2007. I hate, loath and despise Office 2010 and Windows 7, but I guess I'll have to get used to them. The price was right and I got the merchandise in record time. I have never been disappointed with anything I have bought through Amazon.
